Kings Landing has been making more trades than a car dealership. I count 3 cars moved off the lot within the last month and we are still a few months away from the trade deadline. I think the Kings’ are far from done.
On the other side, conference rival Amherst Speedsters has been looking for more support in the front-court after sending Giannis for Shai a couple weeks ago.
During Week 11, Kings Landing hit a hard fork in the road:
- Having last won his first matchup in Week 6 (Kings beats Danes 5-4),
- Only 8 weeks remaining in the regular season (currently in week 12)
- Sitting in last place and 13 games behind the 8th position (Brooklyn Phoeniks)
- Does now own his 2023 rookie draft pick (owned by Brooklyn Phoeniks)
- Anthony Davis out indefinitely
- Kings currently in the luxury tax ($50)
Kings clearly needed a turn key reliable top 100 car, and he got a kia, kyle kuzma edition.
Given the scenario, the trade market, uncertainty surrounding AD but the certainty and hard facts of King’s current standings, I grade this trade a 9 out of 10. There is absolutely no way to get equal statistical value in return of AD, as he was the number 1 player in fantasy reminding us the cheat code is still alive, but the best ability is availability and he has struggled in that department not only this year but each year as a Los Angelos Laker.
Kings was also able to get a rookie pick from Amherst Speedsters in what is projected to be a deep 2023 rookie draft class. Although this pick will more than likely not be a top 4 pick since Speedsters looks playoff bound (sitting in 4th, 3.5 games out from first place). Taking away an everyday starter in Speedsters rotation and replacing him with an IR, he could potentially slip in the standings maybe falling into the 5-8 spot, where that pick would turn into a low probability lottery pick (worst 12 regular season make the lottery)
This is the price you pay to get the top 75 player of all-time. Amherst is desperate for a championship, as some fans have given up and wondered if the franchise is cursed and destined for another heart break. Given the price of admission, the fan base will have something to cheer about. Kuzma statistical profile is “too small” and inefficient compared to AD.
You can read the stats below but AD dominates Kuzma in points rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, fg%, ft%, and turnovers. Perhaps better summarized as Kuzma makes more 3s and more assists a game than AD from a 9-category comparison perspective. HOWEVER availability is the best ability and Anthony Davis does not come a warranty, struggling to stay healthy as a Los Angelos Laker; if there is one thing we know is Kia provides a great warranty. If we flip this over on its to totals with each resting Anthony Davis day, Kuzma is drawing closer
